After the war and after he had recovered, he came back to Clarksville. Like everyone else at that time, he was broke and looking for anything he could do to make a little money. He decided to try teaching school. He got a little three-months school, all the community could afford.

Then he had a lot of time on his hands and nothing to do. The woods were full of wild game such as coons, mink, beaver, otter, etc. But he had no dog, and good dogs were hard to find. His family had a friend on Lost Prairie northeast of Rondo, Arkansas, who offered to give him a dog if he would come get it. This was about a four-day trip on horseback. The first day out he reached Rondo. It was about night and he was looking for a place to spend the night. He rode up to the gate of an inviting looking home and asked if he might stay overnight, and was invited in. It was the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hudgins, and Prof. Anderson spied a beautiful girl who made the place more attractive to him. Mr. Hudgins found out that Prof. Anderson had been teaching school, and since Rondo needed a school teacher, he insisted that Prof. Anderson stop in on the way back and look the situation over with a view of teaching for them. When he got back he was easily persuaded to stay over a few days, not so much on account of the prospective school job, but he had taken a shine to Miss Hudgins who also insisted that he came back and teach.

The temptation was too great. Before he left, he had agreed to return and teach for them. When he came back Miss Hudgins was in his senior class. To make a long story short, he and Miss Hudgins were married after a few months. He would often tell Mrs. Anderson that a hound dog was the cause of a life of trails and tribulations.

Prof. Anderson said he had to study every night in order to know the lessons and stay ahead of the classes. He taught at Rondo for a few years and then went to Little River county, where I first knew him as teacher at Richmond. He moved to Rocky Comfort and began teaching there about 1891 or 1892, and taught there until 1905 or 1906. I got about all the education I have from him.
