Teaching and Learning into the New Millennium

Updated: 3/2/2000

This workshop will demonstrate how users can easily develop Web-based interactive databases for classes, administration, and research. FileMaker Pro 5.0 will be used in the workshop. For class use, a database used by general psychology students will be shown. Students submit one URL per test, for a total of five. Using the features of the database, grading the URLs of 70 students takes around 30 minutes. For administrative use, a master class schedule will be shown. That database allows faculty, administrators, and staff to quickly find instructors, courses, classrooms, and buildings. The database is configured so that authorized users may edit and add records as needed. For research, a database used to catalog and annotate URLs in biology will be shown. Researchers find URLs, catalog them, annotate them, and serve them. In the last half hour of the workshop, the audience will help create a new database containing records and fields related to the presenters at this conference from scratch and serve it on the Web.
