Test 1 / 2009

Modified: 2/20/2009

Instructions: E-mail as Word attachment (.doc or .docx). Do not send .wps files. Due before 5:00 p.m., Friday, February 27.

Use the CS main page and other Web pages as the source for your answers.

Answers should be complete, thoughtful, and articulate. You may consult with me via e-mail as you develop your answers (probably a good strategy). Shoot for at least one page per question and do not simply copy and paste answers. Use quotes to indicate sources you found elsewhere and provide URLs or references where appropriate. Failure to properly cite sources may lead to a grade of zero for that item!

1. Without specifically referring to SAU or to any other college, create a list of offices, services, people, and so on that should appear on a Web page. Organize the list with the most important items first. Finally, justify your organization in a paragraph or two.

2. "oh and two" is a phrase that means much in baseball. In fact, it can only be understood if the listener has an understanding of the domain of baseball. Find a similar phrase, list it, and tell me what it means and what domain it falls under.
3. Using SAU facilities and equipment as examples, explain what client-server computing is and how it works here.
4. What are the disciplines that constitute cognitive science. Briefly explain why each discipline contributes to cognitive science.
